UNN Closed, SUG Suspended After Students' Protest

The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) directed an immediate closure of its
Enugu Campus following yesterday’s violent protest by students of the
university.
In a statement made available to The Leadership on Tuesday, the Deputy Vice-
Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Professor Smart Uchegbu said
in light of the violent protest and monumental destruction of properties on 13th
June, 2016, the Vice-Chancellor has directed an immediate closure of the
university.
Uchegbu said “the Enugu Campus Student Union Government has also been
suspended.”
The SUG had last Monday effected its directive to students to stay away from
lectures to protest months of near absence of electric power supply in the
university.
The students staged a one week stay at home protest to push for better welfare
services including provision of Wi-Fi services in the hostels, installation of
1500KVA power generator, extension of generator light to libraries, and
classrooms, among other things.
